Not many licensed drivers are aware of the following:  You must complete a 4-hour basic driver improvement course if you want to retain your driver license privilege if you have committed the following:

• Passed a stopped school bus or,
• You had two crashes in a two-year period, which resulted in property damage greater than $500 or,
• You were a driver in a crash and are found at fault and someone was transported to the hospital or,
• Was Highway Racing or Was a Highway Racing Spectator or,
• Reckless Driving
• Running a red light or traffic control device (such as a stop sign)

You will receive official notification (if you did not elect the 4 hour traffic school option) from the DHSMV.

Overall – and in general – it’s easier and much faster than doing the course in person. There is no travel time, no wasting gas and you can do the course when it’s convenient for you!

On the other side of the coin, you could have had a judge or magistrate court order you to attend a 4-hour basic driver improvement course with no restrictions. If there are restrictions please call our office we’re here to help.

No matter what the reason may be, there are benefits with attending an online class such as:

• Your insurance rates cannot go up and your policy cannot be canceled because of this violation, unless this involved a crash where you were at fault.
• Points will NOT be added to your driver license record, adjudication of guilt is withheld, safe driver status is maintained if applicable, and the fine could be reduced.

Note: You may not make an election under this subsection if you have made this election in the preceding 12 months. Additionally, a person may make no more than five driving school/traffic school elections throughout their driver license lifetime duration.

Within 30 days from the date your received the traffic citation and prior to attending class, you must:

Inform the Clerk of Court in the county where you received the citation that you want to go to traffic school, and Pay an election fee to the Clerk of Court in the county where you received the citation.

A full list of your options for satisfying your traffic citation is on the back of your citation OR, the officer provided you with a handout describing your options. You are required to choose one of the three options listed in that handout within 30 days of receiving the citation.

One point we would like to make very clear: Many online traffic school courses claim to be the lowest but, once you hand over your charge card information and continue with your registration or, in many cases – complete the course and start the payment process to attain your certificate – you’ll soon discover you will have to pay extra fees. Some of these fees – to name a few – are disguised as: processing fees, or, handling fees, or service fees which in turn, jacks-up the price of the 4-hour BDI also referred to as the 4-Hour DDC course considerably. Our 4-hour BDI course which is also referred to as 4-hour DDC course is only $23.95  complete, and there are no hidden fees!
